“Don’t wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. Weak men wait for opportunities; strong men make them.”
– Orison Swett Mardin, 1850-1924, Author
Frequently, friends, colleagues, and clients will ask about the successes–and what seems to be the obvious luck–of others whom I work with, know, or have coached in the past. It is as if there is a one key, or magic formula, that I might be able to point out that could lead them down the same road.
And, when I think about it, I suppose there is. The folks I know who have created amazing lives do have a few things in common:
They hold themselves to a very high standard
They are unreasonable in their expectations
They don’t see failure as an option
They pursue their passion and purpose with vigor – every day
I would describe these people as leaders. And, by my definition, a leader creates a future that was not going to happen unless they create it.
