“Our habits are the execution of our beliefs.”
- James K. McPartland
Day in and day out our life demonstrates our beliefs. Our beliefs make us - but they are not us. For the most part, our lives are a result of imitation, memorization, association, and imagination. We acquire a great majority of our beliefs before we are 9 years old and they are essentially locked into place by the time we reach our mid 30’s. You might say that our consistent actions are being dictated by a 9 year old. To those of us who want to change something in our lives, the question is not so much about which habit to modify as it is about which belief to alter. When in pursuit of a new initiative, goal or sustainable change, a good question to ask yourself is: “What would I have to believe, or no longer believe, in order to bring this to fruition?"
